Ludwig Wittgenstein’s writings inspired contemporary philosophical thinking and advanced many issues that had been addressed by traditional philosophy. The questions raised by the Viennese philosopher initiated debates on a reconsideration of philosophical terminology. This is especially true for a term that has generated at least three significant controversies since its creation and will probably generate more disputes in the following years. It is the expression “form(s) of life” which translates into German as “Lebensform(en)” and “Form des Lebens”. Another group examines truth and types of relation. A third group of authors focuses on the current factors influencing our (...) concept of democracy and its legal foundations and makes reference to moral aspects and the question of political responsibility. The book links the concept of intention to human action. It provides answers to questions like: Why do we act intentionally? Which impact do reasons and motives have on our decisions? Certain events are identified as intentional actions when they are considered as being rationalized by reasons. The linguistic description of such events enables us to reveal the structure of intention. The mental and the linguistic constitute irreducible ways of understanding events. Among the topics discussed are intentionality, actions, the linguistic (...) form to talk about intentionality and actions, Brentano’s view of intentionality, the phenomenological approach to intention and Wittgenstein's proposals. The contributions by Wolfgang Künne, Peter Simons, Christian Bermes, Kevin Mulligan, Severin Schroeder, António Marques, Margit Gaffal, Michel Le Du, Jesús Padilla Gálvez, Bernhard Obsieger and Amir Horowitz show that actions and decisions are guided by intentional considerations. La expresión “mundo posible” se emplea para expresar argumentos moda-les. En este trabajo encontramos las huellas implícitas anteriores de la idea de mundos posi-bles en las obras de Antonio Rubio que tuvo una gran influencia en la discusión posterior. Primero reconstruimos la crítica lleva a cabo por Suárez contra Aristóteles que postulaba que sólo había un mundo. Seguidamente, se desarrolla dicha propuesta en la que se asentó el planteamiento acerca de los mundos posibles desarrollada por Gottfried Leibniz. Se presenta el (...) argumento de la Teodicea que se refirió a los mundos posibles como procedimientos de la mente de Dios y utilizó la noción para argumentar que nuestro mundo creado realmente debe ser “el mejor de todos los mundos posibles”. Dicho argumento se asienta tanto en el campo de la lógica modal como en los procedimientos seguidos por el cálculo funcional. (shrink)

The liar analyzes in detail the genealogy of the paradox expressed by Epimenides when he claimed that all Cretans were liars. As he himself was a native of Crete, this expression was paradoxical since he expressed a truth by lying. Epimenides showed that it is possible to construct perfectly correct sentences according to grammatical and semantic rules, but that they in turn express a contradiction insofar as it is true and false indistinctly. Since the beginning of Western thought, the liar's (...) paradox has been resolved from dissimilar points of view. The book will analyze the different proposals developed in order to deactivate their pernicious consequences for any theory of truth. Thus, Aristotle proposed that the liar should be considered a fallacy, so he attempted to dissolve the presumed validity of his argument through insightful distinctions around the secundum quid et simpliciter fallacy. Subsequently, solutions were tested within the framework of discursive, dialectical and hypothetical models. In the book those propositions that change their truth value over time are analyzed, those called in the metapiptonta tradition. In medieval times the liar was assumed to be insolubious. Special attention was given to the discussion around the transcasus. Kant approached the liar from the point of view of the white lies generated by the antinomies of reason. In modern times, special care was taken to translate the liar into new expressive forms in order to pose it from a merely formal point of view. For this reason the study of him focused on showing and describing his circular, self-referential and reflective character. This work emphasizes the study of the liar within the framework of occasional expressions. The self-reference of the liar's paradox is derived from referential expressions that result from the information expressed circumstantially within the framework of a surrounding context. For this reason we propose a systematic study of the occasional in order to dissolve the liar. Our proposal proposes to characterize the surrounding expressions that determine the liar's referential meaning. (shrink)

Verdad se usa con frecuencia para expresar que una proposición se corresponde con los hechos, la realidad o es fiel a algo original. Muchas actividades humanas se sirven del concepto de “verdad” si bien se presupone su significado intuitivo. El concepto de verdad se debate en este libro principalmente desde tres tradiciones distintas: la teoría clásica, la propuesta semántica y la opción alternativa. Comúnmente, la verdad se ve como la correspondencia del lenguaje o el pensamiento con una realidad independiente. Por (...) el contrario, una teoría semántica de la verdad es una teoría que sostiene que la verdad es una propiedad de las proposiciones. Este punto de vista ha recalcado en presentar una definición satisfactoria que sea materialmente adecuada y formalmente correcta del predicado verdadero. La concepción semántica de verdad se relaciona de diferentes maneras tanto con la correspondencia como con las concepciones deflacionistas. Sin embargo, una convención que satisfaga el predicado de verdad para ciertos enunciados de un lenguaje dado no se puede definir dentro de ese lenguaje. Mediante esta propuesta se intenta resolver la paradoja del mentiroso. Por el contrario, las propuestas alternativas consideran que la definición de semántica es artificiosa empobreciendo así la dimensión veritativa del lenguaje ordinario en el que los hablantes se expresan. Su propuesta pretende devolver al lenguaje natural su significatividad original del predicado “verdad(ero)”. Kripke demuestra que un lenguaje puede contener consistentemente su propio predicado de la verdad, algo que Alfred Tarski consideraba imposible. El enfoque se asienta en definir “verdad” como propiedad parcialmente definida sobre el conjunto de enunciados gramaticalmente bien formados en el lenguaje. El libro aborda los temas afines, presentando las pruebas y refutaciones propuestas en cada alternativa. (shrink)

En este artículo se proporciona una pormenorizada lectura del pasaje del Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus que Wittgenstein dedica al análisis de la clase de oraciones que expresan una actitud epistémica de un sujeto hacia una proposición (de 5.54 a 5.5423). Se argumenta que en dicho pasaje Wittgenstein pretende mostrar que el valor de verdad no depende de las partes constituyentes sino del todo. Se analiza cada una de las partes de las que consta un enunciado de creencia. Wittgenstein demuestra que el valor (...) de verdad del enunciado de creencia no depende del valor de verdad del enunciado insertado en la oración subordinada. Tampoco depende del sujeto lingüístico. El valor de verdad recae sobre el complejo y se debe de entender como tal. (shrink)

La teoría semántica de la verdad se ha vuelto a reconciliar con la lógica, con el gusto por plantear cuestiones vinculadas al concepto semántico de verdad mediante estructuras lógicas. Y en la teoría de la verdad vuelven a plantearse los temas semánticos desde una vertiente formal. La teoría de la verdad propuesta recientemente ha reencontrado las estructuras formales, los temas vinculados a la lógica, los vínculos (...) entre las estructuras formales y las cuestiones semánticas, etc., y lo hace en coincidencia, acentúo, con un análisis formal paralelo que se viene proponiendo desde hace algún tiempo. El libro que reseñamos estudia la naturaleza humana desde una perspectiva muy amplia al abordar el “potencial moral”. Efectivamente, la expresión inglesa “moral powers” es compleja de trasladar al castellano ya que hace referencia a la fuerza moral, aludiendo pues al rendimiento o la potestad moral; así como, la potencia humana y su capacidad moral. Nos encontramos ante un hito que estudia el valor en la vida y el pensamiento humano, escrito por uno de los pensadores contemporáneos más activos e (...) importantes del momento. Estamos pues ante una investigación filosófica sobre las potencialidades y sensibilidades morales de los seres humanos, del significado de la vida humana y el lugar que ocupa la muerte en la vida. Se nos presentan unas reflexiones sobre antropología filosófica, es decir el estudio del marco conceptual mediante el cual pensamos, hablamos e investigamos acerca del ser humano, entendido en su horizonte social y cultural. El volumen examina la diversidad de valores en la vida humana y el lugar del valor moral dentro de las variedades de estos valores. El asunto crucial gira alrededor de la naturaleza del bien y el mal y la propensión humana a la virtud y al vicio. Examina las concepciones tradicionales sobre el valor ético y repasa críticamente los conceptos erróneos que se han ido introduciendo en la filosofía, la psicología o la neurociencia cognitiva. La recepción durante el siglo XX se preguntó si la filosofía nietzscheana era a-, im- o anti-política, es decir, si podía ser asimilada por la democracia, o si era antimoderna, elitista y reaccionaria. El italiano Roberto Esposito ha propuesto leerla como formando e informando el paradigma de la biopolítica. Se discuten cuatro lecturas de esa biopolítica: como formadora del paradigma de la inmunidad, como tanatopolítica, como liberal y neoliberal, y como biopolítica afirmativa. Twentieth-century readers wondered if Nietzschean philosophy was apolitical, (...) impolitic, or anti-political; that is, if it could be assimilated by democracy or if it was antimodern, elitist, and reactionary. The Italian philosopher Robert Esposito has proposed reading Nietzsche's philosophy as forming and informing the biopolitical paradigm. Four readings of these biopolitics are discussed: as part of the paradigm of immunity, as thanatopolitics, as liberal and neoliberal, and as affirmative biopolitics. (shrink)

Afin de répondre à cette question, nous devons clarifier ce à quoi elle fait référence. Nous devons déterminer si la « globalisation » peut être sémantiquement mise en rapport avec l’idéologie. L’idéologie signifie l’ensemble de nos attitudes personnelles, idées et points de vue fondés sur la connaissance, l’expérience et les sensations à travers lesquels nous percevons et interprétons le monde, la position que nous y occupons et la société toute entière. Dans la perspective des Lumières, l’idéologie est considérée comme une (...) sorte de préjugé qui domine la raison. Pourquoi cela est-il important dans le contexte de la globalisation ? De manière générale, la globalisation est considérée comme un processus d’interconnexion internationale permanente et de progrès dans presque tous les champs de la vie, tels que l’économie, la politique, la culture ou la communication. Ce point de vue implique l’expérience d’un changement qui touche non seulement notre environnement, notre société et ses institutions, mais aussi les États-nations et leurs citoyens. L’environnement et ses ressources sont un pré-requis à la globalisation. Le processus continu de libéralisation du marché entraîne la modification et, en définitive, la destruction des ressources. Dans cet article, nous examinerons si les mesures politiques ont la capacité d’exercer le contrôle de ce mécanisme dialectique. (shrink)

This article is divided into introduction andd three section. In the first section we examine Leibniz’ termini necesitas-possibilitas. In the second section we propose a minimal modal logic, LLM, arise from the addition of modal priciples. Finally in the last section we examine his complex studie towards the interpretation of modal language in the possible worlds. The resulting interplay between the minimal modallogic and the possible worlds perspective is one of the main charms of semantics.
